The Toronto Maple Leafs will hold a team practice outdoors at the newly covered rink at Toronto’s Greenwood Park on Friday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m., and the public is encouraged to attend.
Although Olympians Phil Kessel, James van Riemsdyk and Nikolai Kulemin won’t be in attendance, the rest of the team will be.
The free event is being held at the city’s first covered outdoor rink — recently revitalized with more than $300,000 in support from the MLSE Foundation — is free of charge and open to the public. Members of the Maple Leafs alumni will be on hand to sign autographs.
While the hockey world’s focus will zero in on quarterfinal action of the men’s Olympic tournament, NHL practices will recommence for the non-Olympians Wednesday in North America.
NHL action resumes Feb. 25, but the Leafs’ first post-Olympics game takes place on Feb. 27, when the Leafs face the Islanders in New York.
