Maple Leafs place goalie Michael Hutchinson on waivers

Hockey Central reacts to the latest news that the Maple Leafs have waived goalie Michael Hutchinson, speculating on what the next move might be, via promotion within or possible trade.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed backup goaltender Michael Hutchinson waivers.

The move comes after Hutchinson gave up five goals against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.

In five starts this season Hutchinson has a 0-4-1 record with a 4.44 goals-against average and .879 save percentage.

The Maple Leafs haven’t announced a replacement backup goalie yet, but Kasimir Kaskisuo will likely be called up from the Toronto Marlies before the Maple Leafs’ next game.

Kaskisuo, 26, has a 6-1-1 record in the AHL this season with a 2.13 goals-against average and .928 save percentage.

The Maple Leafs next play Wednesday on the road against the New York Islanders.
