Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf was placed on Toronto’s injured reserve on Saturday with a hand injury.
The move is retroactive to Jan. 21 when the defenceman suffered the injury in a fight against the Ottawa Senators.
Phaneuf was seen on the ice practicing with the Leafs earlier in the day.

As a corresponding move, Toronto called up Antoine Bibeau from its AHL affliate the Toronto Marlies on an emergency basis. In 20 games this season, Bibeau is 8-7-5 with a 2.58 goals-against average and .917 save percentage. The Victoriaville, Que., native was a sixth-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.
Sportsnet has learned that Maple Leafs goaltender Jonathan Bernier is sick and will be a game-time decision. The move to recall Bibeau is a precautionary move.
