Maple Leafs sign defenceman Vincent LoVerde to two-year deal

David Amber, John Shannon and Chris Johnston discuss the Toronto Maple Leafs taking a dip into NHL free agency.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenceman Vincent LoVerde to a two-year contract, the team announced Saturday.

The deal is worth a total $1.45 million and carries a $725,000 cap hit.

LoVerde has played in 301 career American Hockey League games (33 goals, 87 assists) but has yet to make his NHL debut.

The 28-year-old has been in the Los Angeles Kings system since signing with the team’s ECHL affiliate in 2011-12. He made the jump to the AHL in 2012-13 and went on to captain the club’s then-AHL affiliate Manchester Monarchs to the 2015 Calder Cup. He scored nine goals and added 26 assists in 61 games with the AHL Ontario Reign this past season and earned himself a spot in the 2016 All-Star Classic.
