Maple Leafs’ Winnik injured vs. Capitals, will not return

Watch as Maple Leafs centreman Daniel Winnik goes down in a weird way after bumping into Capitals’ Justin Williams.

Daniel Winnik will not return to Saturday’s game against the Washington Capitals after sustaining an apparent lower-body injury.

The Toronto Maple Leafs centre, who kicked off the scoring in Saturday’s game with a first-period goal, fell awkwardly after bumping Capitals winger Justin Williams along the boards in the Leafs’ zone.

He was slow to get up, and needed to be helped off the ice.

Winnik has two goals and four assists in 13 games with the Maple Leafs so far this season.
