The Toronto Marlies have signed former second-round pick Stefan Legein to a training camp tryout agreement, the club announced Thursday.

Legein, 24, was picked 37th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2007 draft but has never appeared in a National Hockey League game.

The former Canadian world junior hails from Oakville, Ont., and has 97 points in 258 career American Hockey League contests with the Syracuse Crunch, Adirondack Phantoms and Manchester Monarchs.

Legein quit hockey in 2008 at the age of 19, citing burnout after a string of shoulder injuries, then returned a year later to play 26 games for the Crunch.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound right-winger scored 17 points in 51 games last season for the Monarchs, the AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings.
