After his most disappointing season yet, Martin Havlat is still going for it.
The veteran forward has been invited to try out for the Florida Panthers, the club announced Friday morning.
A first-round pick and a 20-goal scorer six times over, 34-year-old Havlat scored just five goals in 40 games with the New Jersey Devils last season — a campaign marred by multiple injuries.
The Devils let Havlat’s one-year, $1.5-million deal expire on July 1, and now he has a chance to reunite with former Devil Jaromir Jagr.
Drafted 26th overall by the Ottawa Senators in 1999, the native of Mlada Boleslav, Czech Rep., has appeared in 788 NHL games, recording 241 goals and 352 assists with Ottawa, Chicago, Minnesota, San Jose and New Jersey.
Not since 2010-11 in Minnesota has Havlat played more than 48 games in one season.
Florida’s training camp opens Sept. 17 at BB&T Center.
