Florida Panthers set to unveil new logo, sweaters

Jason Spezza was in on four of five Dallas goals to eliminate the Wild while Braden Holtby shutout the Flyers, ending their Cinderella story and John Tavares tied it late third and won it in double overtime to send the Panthers packing.

Good-bye, Spacey in Space hoodie. Hello, new logo.

A brand-spanking new Florida Panthers logo and the team’s new sweaters will be unveiled June 2 at BB&T Center. Aaron Ekblad, Steven Kampfer, Vincent Trocheck and Shawn Thornton will be modelling the new threads.

However, the redesigned mark was reportedly leaked via Twitter on April 26, by Paul Lukas of Uni-Watch.

The new cat carries a more regal aesthetic. Much less tear-through-your-throat mode. If the old panther had no chill, this one burns with a quiet intensity. Like that time you messed up huge and Dad, instead of flipping out, didn’t say a word. Which was scarier.

According to Sportslogos.net, the military badge–inspired mark will be the new primary logo for the club, splashing the front of the sweater atop a Montreal Canadiens–style horizontal stripe.

Although the pouncing cat’s shadowing was tweaked slightly in 1999, this signals the first major logo shift in the franchise’s 23-year history.
