Here’s a story to warm your heart for the weekend.
The New Jersey Devils and CCM Hockey teamed up Friday to supply Akiel Fogoe, a teen whose family recently lost their house in a fire, with brand new hockey equipment.
Fogoe’s equipment was lost after a fire in a three-story, multi-family home in Bayonne, N.J., on July 11 tragically claimed the life of two people and left several others injured.
“It means a lot to him,” his father, Haleane Fogoe, told Amanda Marzullo of NJ.com. “It will take his mind off of all the stuff that is going on…I know he was always motivated to play hockey, but I think this is a lot more motivation for him now.”
Fogoe is a goaltender at Bayonne High School. In addition to new equipment, the 17-year-old received a signed Cory Schneider jersey and got some ice time with the Devils’ team mascot.
Here are some photos and video of Fogoe enjoying his new gear.
