NHL Power Rankings: 30 Team Tweets Edition

All the best plays from the week that was in the NHL, including Kris Versteeg turning the Senators captain into a temporary pilon.

In the shadows of Marc-Andre Fleury’s somewhat surprising new long-term contract extension, Patric Hornqvist’s seamless assimilation into the Pittsburgh arsenal and Sidney Crosby’s Sidney Crosbyness, Evgeni Malkin is plying his trade as sharply as ever.

While serving the Minnesota Wild their first home loss of the season Tuesday, the Penguins stretched their winning streak to five games, the same length of Crosby and Hornqvist’s point streaks.

But that duo’s heat has nothing on the feverish pace of Malkin, who has collected points in 11 games running, tying him with Phil Kessel for third overall in the Art Ross race.

Malkin, who won both the Hart and Art Ross trophies in 2012, finished 15th overall in scoring last season and 64th in 2012-13, so it’s refreshing to see one of the world’s most dangerous talents healthy and back in elite form.

Adding to Pittsburgh’s offensive dominance is a defensive crackdown overseen by new coach Mike Johnston. The Pens enjoyed a silly-good 205:28 minute shutout streak this week, thanks to Fleury and backup Thomas Greiss, and they potting 18 unanswered goals during that span.

Here are this week’s power rankings, with write-ups torn exclusively from each club’s Twitter account — a 140-character-or-less snippet that captures their team’s week.
