The Anaheim Ducks could potentially move defenceman Sami Vatanen on deadline day, according to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston.
The 22-year-old native of Jyvaskyla, Finland has six goals, eight assists, 20 penalty minutes and a plus-2 rating in 41 games with the Ducks this season. He is currently on his entry-level contract with a cap hit of $785,000 and becomes a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
Vatanen was drafted 106th overall by the Ducks in 2009. He is a highly regarded prospect who had 45 points in 62 games with the Norfolk Admirals in the American Hockey League last season. He also represented Finland at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
The Ducks made three trades Tuesday and it’s believed the team is interested in making a big move on deadline day.
At this point in the season the Ducks have the best record in the NHL (41-14-6) and sit atop the Pacific Division with 91 points.
