Edmonton Oilers defenceman Andrej Sekera has a torn ACL and will need six to nine months to make a full recovery.
Oilers president and general manager Peter Chiarelli revealed the injury during a press conference on Tuesday.
Sekera last played for Edmonton in Game 5 against the Anaheim Ducks in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The 30-year-old had eight goals and 35 points in 80 regular-season games this season.
He is expected to undergo surgery on Thursday.
