The Edmonton Oilers are taking a cautious approach with Jeff Petry before Monday’s trade deadline.
To ensure that he will not suffer an injury, Petry will be a healthy scratch on Saturday night, which fuelled speculation that a trade could soon happen.
Petry is one of the hottest defenceman on the trade market. The 27-year-old has an expiring contract and is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after the season.
In 59 games this season, the Michigan native has registered four goals, 11 assists, 32 penalty minutes with a minus-25 rating.
According to Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com, the Oilers’ asking price for the defenceman is a second round draft pick.
The Oilers originally selected Petry with the 45th overall pick in the 2006 NHL Draft.
