Oilers recall goaltender Brossoit after Gustavsson collision

Ryan O’Reilly and Brian Gionta both scored a pair of goals to help the Buffalo Sabres pound the Edmonton Oilers.

The Edmonton Oilers recalled goaltender Laurent Brossoit from their American Hockey League affiliate on Monday, a day after backup Jonas Gustavsson went down with an injury against the Buffalo Sabres.

Gustavsson exited Sunday night’s game against the Sabres with an undisclosed injury after being bumped into by teammate Adam Larsson. The Swedish goaltender would remain in the game — a 6-2 Buffalo win — for a brief period before giving the net back to Cam Talbot, who started the matchup.

The 23-year-old Brossoit posted a .873 save percentage and a 3.61 goals against average in five games with the Oilers last season.

Edmonton assigned defenceman Matthew Benning to AHL Bakersfield in a corresponding move.
