Oilers sign forward Joseph Gambardella to entry-level contract

The Edmonton Oilers have signed free agent forward Joseph Gambardella to a two-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Tuesday.

Gambardella scored 18 goals while adding 34 assists in 41 games with the NCAA’s University of Massachusetts-Lowell River Hawks in 2016-17. The 23-year-old won the Walter Brown Award this season, given to the top American-born college player in New England each year.

The Staten Island, N.Y., native spent two seasons in the United States Hockey League with the Des Moines Buccaneers, recording 45 points and 28 penalty minutes in 79 games.
