The Ottawa Senators have taken a step forward in their bid for a new downtown arena.

Rendez Vous LeBreton Group, which includes the Senators, has been shortlisted along with three other parties as potential groups to headline a redevelopment plan for LeBreton Flats in downtown Ottawa, according to a report in the Ottawa Citizen.

The Senators announced plans in December to submit a bid to the National Capital Commission to construct a new arena on the land.

Other potential development plans shortlisted by the NCC for the project near Parliament Hill include Claridge Homes’ plans for a concert facilities and “cultural enterprises” and green spaces, Devcore Group’s “multiple cultural institutions developed around a grande allée,” and Focus Equities’ plans to construct the headquarters of an unnamed international organization.

The Ottawa Senators’ current residence, Canadian Tire Centre, sits roughly 22 kilometres from downtown Ottawa in Kanata, Ont.
