Cross another prospective free agent defenceman off the list of players who will be available on July 1. The Florida Panthers have signed Keith Yandle to a 7-year, $44.45-million contract.
The Panthers acquired Yandle’s negotiating rights from the New York Rangers earlier this week in exchange for a 2016 sixth-round pick.
Yandle’s deal with the Panthers includes a no-movement clause for the first six seasons.
Yandle scored five goals and totalled 47 points in 82 games with the Rangers in 2015-16. The 29-year-old earned $5.25 million against the salary cap this past season.
A former fourth-round pick of the Arizona Coyotes, Yandle arrived in New York in March of 2015 in a trade that saw Anthony Duclair go the other way.
Yandle has registered 72 goals and 369 points in 661 games in his career.
