The Florida Panthers and centre Jonathan Huberdeau have agreed to a two-year deal.
The Panthers will have their 2014-15 leading scorer in training camp following a week where teams were rumoured to have been “kicking tires” on a potential offer sheet for the 22-year-old.
The deal is worth $6.5 million over two years.
It’s a bridge deal for the rising star, who totalled 15 goals and 54 points last season.
Huberdeau’s new contract leaves the Panthers with $8,255,817 in salary cap space (figures via GeneralFanager.com), with most of the roster set. Veteran wingers Martin Havlat and David Booth will attend training camp on PTO invites.
The Panthers selected Huberdeau third overall in the 2011 NHL Draft. He was the 2013 Calder Trophy recipient after he scored 14 goals and 31 points in 48 games during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season.
