The Pittsburgh Penguins signed forward Jake Guentzel to a three-year, entry-level contract on Monday.

The 21-year-old joined the Penguins’ American Hockey League affiliate on an amateur tryout late in the year and had two goals and four assists in 11 games. His entry-level deal begins for the 2016-17 season.

Guentzel scored five goals and 14 points in 10 post-season games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, who were eliminated in the second round by the Hershey Bears.

The Omaha, Neb., native played three years for the NCAA’s University of Nebraska-Omaha, where he helped the school advance to the Frozen Four in 2014-15.

Pittsburgh drafted the five-foot-10, 167-pound centre in the third round of the 2013 NHL draft.
