Jets’ Toby Enstrom hospitalized after hit from behind

Paul Maurice was clearly displeased with Tom Sestito's hit on Tobias Enstrom, saying the Penguins forward "wasn't called up to dangle."

Jets defenceman Tobias Enstrom is in hospital and being checked for facial fractures, according to Winnipeg head coach Paul Maurice.

Maurice said in his post-game press conference on Wednesday that the team will know more on Thursday regarding Enstrom’s status.

Enstrom was injured in the first period against Pittsburgh when Penguins forward Tom Sestito hit him from behind. Sestito skated through the Jets’ zone and connected with Enstrom, who was playing the puck in the corners.

A scrum would ensue and Enstrom had to be helped off the ice.

Sestito received a major penalty and game misconduct on the play. The 29-year-old was recalled from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton earlier Wednesday.

“He wasn’t called up to dangle, Maurice said.
