It should come as no surprise that Olli Maatta won’t be suiting up for the Pittsburgh Penguins Monday as they host the Washington Capitals in Game 3 of their second-round matchup.
Maatta is dealing with what the team describes as an upper-body injury after Brooks Orpik caught him with a late, cheap elbow early in Game 2. Orpik was suspended three games for the play.
Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan told reporters it’s unclear when Maatta will be ready to return to the lineup.
Justin Schultz, who hasn’t played since Game 1 of the first round, is expected to replace Maatta on the Pittsburgh blue-line.
In other Penguins injury news, goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury is still not 100 per cent.
Fleury hasn’t played since late in the regular season after suffering a concussion on March 31. The 29-year-old recently admitted this injury is one of the toughest things he has gone through in his career. Rookie Matt Murray has performed admirably in Fleury’s absence.
