Predators sign Ryan Johansen to long-term contract

Center Ryan Johansen signed an 8-year $64 million contract with the Nashville Predators. It's the largest contract in Nashville's history.

The Nashville Predators re-signed restricted free agent forward Ryan Johansen, the team announced Friday.

It’s an eight-year deal worth $64 million, which means an annual salary cap hit of $8 million. That’s a comparable deal to the one Evgeny Kuznetsov recently signed with the Washington Capitals.

Predators beat reporter Adam Vingan of The Tennessean was first to report the team and player had agreed on a contract.

Johansen is coming off a 61-point campaign in his first full season with the Predators. The 24-year-old centre added 13 points in 14 playoff games this past spring before being shut down for the season after undergoing emergency surgery on his left thigh.

The fourth-overall pick from 2010 was acquired by Nashville from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Seth Jones midway through 2015-16 and his previous contract was a three-year deal worth $12 million.

Johansen has 95 points in 124 regular-season games with the Preds. In 433 career NHL contests he has totalled 101 goals and 187 assists for 288 points.
