Rangers sign former Oilers, Canadiens forward David Desharnais

Newly acquired Edmonton Oilers forward, David Desharnais, beats Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury for his first goal with his new team.

The New York Rangers have signed free agent forward David Desharnais, the team announced Wednesday.

The club did not disclose the terms of the agreement, but the deal is reportedly worth $1 million for one year.

Desharnais split the 2016-17 campaign with the Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers.

The 30-year-old registered 10 points in 31 games with the Canadiens this past season before being dealt to the Oilers for defenceman Brandon Davidson prior to the trade deadline.

Through 453 career regular-season NHL games, the Laurier-Station, Que., native has 81 goals and 173 points.

It has been a busy off-season for the Rangers so far. On the opening day of free agency the Rangers signed defenceman Kevin Shattenkirk and goalie Ondrej Pavelec. The team also bought out veteran blueliner Dan Girardi and prior to the draft traded Derek Stepan and Antti Raanta to the Coyotes for the seventh-overall pick and Anthony Deangelo.
