Red Wings’ Darren Helm fined $5K for slashing Flames’ Elias Lindholm

Darren Helm and Elias Lindholm get into a battle off the draw, Lindholm throws an elbow at the head of Helm, who responds with a two-handed wack to the back of Lindholm's leg. Helm would receive a match penalty and Lindholm struggles off the ice.

Detroit Red Wings winger Darren Helm has been fined $5,000 for slashing the Calgary FlamesElias Lindholm.

The fine is the maximum allowable under the NHL/NHLPA CBA.

The incident occurred early in the third period of Thursday’s game shortly after the Flames scored to go up 4-1.

After Lindholm interfered with Helm, Helm responded by slashing Lindholm with two hands in the back of the leg. Helm was given a five minute major and a game misconduct for the slash.

Lindholm left the game and did not return. The Flames won 5-1.
