Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer has requested to be traded, according to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos.
Reimer is to become a restricted free agent on July 1, the opening day of NHL free agency.
Last season, Reimer recorded a 3.29 goals-against average with a .911 save percentage in 36 games played with 32 starts.
The 26-year-old was the opening-night starter for the Leafs, but ended up becoming the primary backup to Jonathan Bernier as the season progressed.
The timing of Reimer’s request is a little curious as on Saturday the Maple Leafs also expressed interest in signing unrestricted free agent to be Martin Brodeur.
