GLENDALE, Ariz. — An NHL official with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press that Arizona Coyotes captain Shane Doan has agreed to a one-year contract with a base salary of $2.5 million.
The person, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the contract has not been signed, said the deal will be around $5 million with a deferred signing bonus and incentives.
The 39-year-old Doan is coming off one of his best seasons, leading Arizona with 28 goals and finishing with 19 assists. He has spent his entire 20-year career with the Coyotes and played with the franchise when it was in Winnipeg.
Doan had previously signed a four-year, $21.2 million contract that expired at the start of free agency this month. He has 396 career goals and 549 assists.
