Maple Leafs’ Roman Polak suspended two games for hit on Bjorkstrand

Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Roman Polak has been suspended two games for his hit on Columbus Blue Jackets forward Oliver Bjorkstrand.

Polak was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for boarding on the play early in the third period on Wednesday. Bjorkstrand left the game and did not return.

According to Blue Jackets beat writer Tom Reed, Bjorkstrand did not travel with the team for their game against the Washington Capitals.

According to a press release from the NHL, Polak will forfeit $25,000.00 as part of his suspension. The money will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
