Sabres’ Scandella fined for vicious slash on Penguins’ Hornqvist

Marco Scandella will be a little lighter in the wallet for this slash on Patric Hornqvist.

Buffalo Sabres defenceman Marco Scandella has been fined $5,000 for slashing Pittsburgh Penguins forward Patric Hornqvist on Tuesday night.

The fine is the maximum allowable under the CBA.

Scandella hit Hornqvist with a vicious two-handed slash (seen in video above) at 10:21 in the second period of the Penguins’ thrilling 5-4 win while Pittsburgh was on the two-man advantage. Scandella received a two-minute minor for slashing, and an unhappy Hornqvist picked up a penalty for interference.

The money from the fine will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
