The Ottawa Senators have signed centre Aaron Luchuk on a three-year entry-level contract.
Luchuk, 20, leads the OHL with 31 goals and is second with 56 points. He was traded to the Barrie Colts from the Windsor Spitfires on Dec. 14. He won the Memorial Cup with the Spitfires last season.
“Aaron is a talented and proven goal scorer who plays a strong two-way game. He’s shown the ability to elevate his play in big games, as demonstrated by his play in last year’s Memorial Cup, said Senators assistant general manager Randy Lee in a team release. “He has high character, excellent hockey sense and is trusted by his coaches in critical times of the game. Aaron is a player we have had our eye on for some time and we are very happy to welcome him into the Senators organization.”
The Kingston, Ont., native has 96 goals and 96 assists in 239 career OHL games with Windsor and Barrie. The five-foot-10, 184-pound forward was never selected in the NHL Draft.
