NHL outdoor hockey appears to be coming to Winnipeg.
According to Sportsnet’s John Shannon, the Winnipeg Jets are expected to host Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers for the an outdoor game during the 2016-17 season.
The NHL initially planned to have Winnipeg host a Heritage Classic game at the home of the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers this season, but scheduling difficulties caused it fall through.
“We haven’t settled on a date that we’re ready to announce,” NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said in early January. “We do owe Winnipeg a game, and we would’ve been there last year but the Grey Cup and some complications.”
