‘Shipping error’ puts Blackhawks cups in St. Louis Dunkin’ Donuts

An “untimely shipping error” led to a St. Louis Dunkin’ Donuts shop serving coffee in cups emblazoned with the logo of St. Louis Blues‘ rival Chicago Blackhawks.

The Dunkin’ Donuts in Kirkwood, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis, received a shipment of coffee cups featuring the Blackhawks logo. The Blues began their first-round playoff series versus the Blackhawks Wednesday night.

St. Louis news station KMOV issued a statement on behalf of the Dunkin’ Donuts location:

“Due to an untimely shipping error from the regional distribution center. Being a local business owner and fan of the hometown team, the franchisee plans to switch out the cups as soon as they receive a new shipment.”

The franchisee ceased sales of beverages in the Blackhawks cups on Wednesday according to KMOV.

We’re buying the “shipping error” explanation but not ruling out a Blackhawks superfan in shipping and receiving pulling off a playoff-inspired prank here, which would be rather awesome.

St. Louis took Game 1 of the series 1-0 after David Backes‘ shot caromed off Blackhawks defenceman Trevor van Riemsdyk‘s skate and through goaltender goaltender Corey Crawford in overtime.

Maybe Dunkin’ Donuts and Blues fans can call a truce on untimely errors after an ending like we saw in Game 1.
