St. Patrik’s Day: Five of our favourite Laine goals

Here's a shocker; Patrik Laine is again the top rookie of the week. Take a look and find out why.

He’s not Irish, but we’ll take just about any opportunity to celebrate the brilliant goal-scoring talents of Winnipeg Jets rookie Patrik Laine.

So while everyone else is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, we’re taking the opportunity to celebrate St. Patrik’s Day by looking back at goals like this:

And these, from last year’s world championships:

(This one’s from practice, but we’re adding it anyway.)

Clearly, the Winnipeg Jets lucked into goal-scoring gold with the No. 2 pick. The 18-year-old Finnish winger has made quite an impact on the NHL during his rookie season so far, with a whopping 33 goals (and counting).

There’s no doubting there will be plenty more to come, but here’s a look a look at some of our favourites so far.

Up against America’s best in World Cup of Hockey pre-tournament play in September, Laine showed off his quick release to get the Finns on the board.

It didn’t take long for hockey fans to see him get on the score board wearing a Jets sweater, as Laine scored in his very first NHL game.

New rink, familiar spot.

Less than a week later, he had his first career NHL hat trick in a game against Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs. While that three-goal feat is impressive in its own right, it’s how he scored the third marker—in OT, right after Matthews’ shot was denied—that we’ll always remember.

(Hat tricks have become a habit for Laine, as he notched his second career trio against the Dallas Stars a few weeks later.)

Poor Calvin Pickard had no chance on this signature one-timer in December.

We’re going to go ahead and assume that Dallas is not a fan of Laine. Two of his three career hat tricks have come against the Stars.

We have no doubt Laine will be adding to this list soon. Happy St. Patrik’s Day, everyone.
