Stars winger Patrick Sharp to undergo season-ending hip surgery

Dallas Stars forward Adam Cracknell got his first NHL hat trick as his team crushed the San Jose Sharks 6-1 extending their losing streak to five games.

Patrick Sharp will undergo season-ending hip surgery on Tuesday, the Dallas Stars announced.

Due to separate concussions and hip issues, the 35-year-old left-winger has been limited to just 48 games this season, scoring eight goals and 18 points, while posting a minus-22 rating.

The Stars also announced Saturday that Sharp was the team’s nominee for the Masterton Trophy this season. The trophy is awarded annually to the player who best exemplifies perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.
