Three things we learned in the NHL Monday

Today was a huge day for the stars of tomorrow’s NHL. But while today’s NHL featured just one game on the schedule, all was not quiet around the league.

Here are three things we learned in the NHL on Monday:

Todd Bertuzzi isn’t ready to hang up the skates just yet.

About nine months removed from his last NHL game, it looks like veteran winger Todd Bertuzzi is looking for a way back onto the ice. Reports emerged today that the 40-year-old has contacted the Ottawa Senators, as well as some other NHL teams.

The San Jose Sharks are REALLY good off the faceoff.

Seriously.

If you’re wondering what a perfect straight-off-the-faceoff goal looks like, check out Brent Burns’ absolute laser of a shot that gave his team the early lead.

Then, in the final seconds of the game — 4.5 seconds left, to be exact — Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored in an almost identical manner. Take a look:

Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis thinks Epix’s Road to the Winter Classic was better than the HBO series.

And he wasn’t afraid to say it.

“To me, [Epix’s show] was more reality TV than HBO. HBO was more theatre, with almost like a script – organ music, piano music, light, dark,” Leonsis said at Nationals Park.
