Watch: Enstrom boarded by Backlund, leaves game

The NHL will be sure to review this hit on Winnipeg Jets defenceman Tobias Enstrom was hit from behind by Mikael Backlund. Enstrom got up and skated off the ice on his own but was out for the remainder of the game.

Winnipeg Jets defenceman Tobias Enstrom left Saturday night’s game against the Calgary Flames and did not return after being boarded by centre Mikael Backlund.

Backlund received a two-minute minor for boarding after the third-period hit.

Jets coach Paul Maurice was unhappy with the hit from Backlund, but said after the Jets 4-1 win that the initial diagnosis of Enstrom’s condition was “positive.”

The Jets kick off the 2014-15 regular season on Oct. 9 against the Arizona Coyotes.
