Wayne Simmonds will not be suspended for punch to head of McDonagh

Watch as Wayne Simmonds is ejected after receiving an intent to injure penalty for his rough play on captain Ryan McDonagh of the New York Rangers.

Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds will not face any supplemental discipline for punching New York Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh to the ice, and will play in Sunday’s game against the Washington Capitals.

Simmonds received a match penalty after retaliating to McDonagh’s cross-check, with a gloved punch that forced McDonagh to leave the game.

The NHL decided that no hearing was required, and that the on-ice punishment was enough for Simmonds’ actions. They did not rescind the match penalty, however.

Simmonds has 34 points (18 goals, 16 assists) in 50 games this season.
