The upcoming UFC 174 in Vancouver continues to take shape, as another Canadian has been added to the card.
Winnipeg bantamweight Roland Delorme (9-2) will fight Japan’s undefeated Michinori Tanaka (9-0), Sportsnet has learned.
Delorme was scheduled to compete at the UFC’s March 8 show in London, England, but after the weigh-ins, his opponent Davey Grant was forced to withdraw with a torn meniscus. Delorme, a black belt in judo and brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, is 3-1, 1 NC since joining the UFC, with six submissions and two knockouts on his overall resume.
At 23 years of age, Tanaka is seven years younger than Delorme and brings a significant youth advantage to this bout. He is a byproduct of one the sport’s best development systems, used almost solely in Japan, under the Shooto banner. He competed five times for Shooto then followed that up with four straight bouts with Pacific Xtreme Combat. He boasts five victories via submission with the other four going the distance.
UFC 174 will take place Saturday, June 14 at the Rogers Arena.
