Fans on Canada’s West Coast will be treated to a UFC title fight that will feature one of the sport’s best pound-for-pound fighters, and arguably the fastest man in mixed martial arts.
UFC flyweight champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson (19-2-1) will put his title on the line against Russia’s best 125-pounder Ali “Puncher King” Bagautinov (13-2) in the main event of UFC 174, Sportsnet has learned.
Bagautinov is undefeated at 3-0 since joining the UFC and earned his title shot when he defeated John Lineker by unanimous decision at UFC 169.
This will be Johnson’s fourth title defence; his previous three bouts saw him defeat some of the division’s best in John Dodson and John Moraga, with his most recent win being a stunning first-round knockout of Joseph Benavidez in a rematch many had predicted would go the distance.
UFC 174: Johnson vs Bagautinov will take place on Saturday, June 14, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. It will be the first time in UFC history that two flyweights headline a pay-per-view card.
