Nick Diaz starting his own MMA promotion

Former No. 1 UFC welterweight contender and Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz plans to create his own fight promotion called WAR Mixed Martial Arts, the California State Athletic Commission confirmed to MMAjunkie.com.

According to the CSAC, Diaz has begun the process of applying for a promoter’s licence in California.
The polarizing star has a website called nickdiazpromotions. (It’s under construction).

The CSAC performed a background check on Diaz and it came back clean, but many other steps still need to be taken in order for plans to go through.

Following his welterweight title fight loss to Georges St-Pierre at March’s UFC 158 in Montreal, Diaz said he was likely done with fighting. He has often complained about the direction the sport has taken, feeling there is too much emphasis on wrestling and less on “fighting.”
