The Edmonton Oilers are bringing defenceman Jason Demers to camp on a professional tryout contract, according to Sportsnet's Mark Spector.

Demers, 34, suited up for five games in the KHL last season with Kazan and also played for Canada at the Beijing Olympics, registering two assists in five games.

The native of Dorval, Que., has 45 goals and 169 assists in 699 career NHL games with the San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers and Arizona Coyotes.

Demers was a seventh-round pick (186th overall) by San Jose in the 2008 NHL Draft.

Spector also reports the Oilers are considering an offer to winger Brett Ritchie, who spent the past two seasons with the Calgary Flames.
