Abel wins bronze in first diving Grand Prix of season

ROSTOCK, Germany – Canadian diver Jennifer Abel won a bronze medal Saturday in the women’s three-metre springboard at the first Grand Prix of the season.

The three-time Olympian finished third with 286.50 points. It was her lowest total in an international final over the last four years.

"Today, clearly, was not a good day for me at the office," she said.

China’s Chunting Wu won gold with 309.85 points and Ukraine’s Victoriya Kesar took the silver with 294.60.

In the men’s synchro three-metre springboard final, Montreal’s Philippe Gagne and Ottawa’s Francois Imbeau-Dulac were fifth.

The German team of Patrick Hausding and Stephan Feck delighted the home crowd by winning gold.
