Team USA vs. Canada: Loser keeps Bieber

America is taking the men's semifinal showdown against Team Canada very seriously.

Canadians don’t necessarily feel they are the best at hockey, but most are certain they care about hockey the more than citizens of any other nation.

Well, three recent displays stateside show that our neighbours to the south are taking Friday’s rematch of the 2010 gold medal game seriously.

First, a new “Go Team USA” video tries to dispel the myth that only sons born north of the 49th parallel woke up early and made their dads tie their skates in the cold. Directed by Jamie Winterstern and set to backing music by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, “Dear Canada” is a nice little spot — respectful towards Canada but steely in the Americans’ resolve to exact revenge for Vancouver 2010.


Less artsy but more in-your-face is the strategy of the Amherst Ale House. The New York pub has vowed to not sell any Canadian beers during Friday’s men’s semifinal between Canada and the U.S. Why? “This is a patriotic matter,” of course.

So all you La Fin Du Monde aficionados better find somewhere else to drink away the game:


The most brazen and hilarious of the bunch, however, comes out of Chicago — the same city that took objection to a certain Canadian-born pop star stepping on its hallowed Blackhawks logo.

A billboard was erected in the Windy City — notice how USA’s Patrick Kane is pitted against Canada’s Jonathan Toews — to up the ante of the men’s semifinal far beyond beer or bragging rights:
