LONDON — Striker Emmanuel Adebayor has been released by Premier League team Tottenham.
Adebayor, 31, had not been included in the club’s 25-man Premier League squad for this season or given a squad number.
In 87 appearances for the north London club, he scored 35 goals. Adebayor also played for Arsenal and Manchester City in the Premier League as well as Metz, Monaco and Real Madrid.
A Togo international, Adebayor also scored 29 goals in 63 appearances for his country.
A statement on Spurs’ official website on Sunday states: "We can confirm that we have reached a mutual agreement with Emmanuel Adebayor which will see him released from his contract with the club. We wish Emmanuel well for the future."
