DORTMUND, Germany — Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has agreed a three-year contract extension with the club.

Dortmund says in a statement that its executive committee agreed to extend the 55-year-old Watzke’s existing deal until December 31, 2019.

The club’s president Reinhard Rauball says, “Watzke has produced excellent work over the last few years. He was the architect of BVB’s recent past; he is the architect of our present and will now drive the further, sustainable development of this great club.”

In the past year, Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp and sporting director Michael Zorc extended their contracts until 2018 and 2019, respectively.

Dortmund hosts Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich for the German Supercup, a curtain raiser for the coming season, on Wednesday.
