Hull City manager Steve Bruce says his team is interested in Toronto FC striker Jermain Defoe, but says the English international might be too expensive.
Bruce’s comments come a day after Queen’s Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp expressed the same sentiment about what it would cost to bring Defoe back to the Premier League.
“Jermain, again as I’ve said, it’s the whole package …. to pay a transfer fee and then pay the wages and everything would be too expensive for us at the moment,” Redknapp told reporters Wednesday. “So that is the problem, the package wouldn’t be within our budget.”
The 32-year-old’s future with TFC has been a hot topic since August when the club turned down a transfer offer from QPR.
Defoe led Toronto in scoring with 11 goals in 19 appearances last season, but missed 15 matches due to injuries and suspension, as the Reds finished seventh in the Eastern Conference and failed to qualify for the playoffs for an eighth consecutive year.
