MADRID — Real Madrid defender Pepe will likely miss Wednesday’s Champions League match at Legia Warsaw due to injury.

The club says Pepe has injured a muscle in his left leg. He was substituted during Saturday’s 4-1 win at Alaves.

Madrid was already without its other first-choice central defender, Sergio Ramos, who is recovering from a left knee injury.

Coach Zinedine Zidane will likely start Raphael Varane and Nacho Fernandez in their places at Legia.

Madrid didn’t estimate how long Pepe will be out.

Borussia Dortmund and Madrid top Group F in the Champions League with seven points each.
