It isn’t even a year old, but the rivalry between New York City FC and the New York Red Bulls might be the city’s most heated.

Fans of the Red Bulls and expansion NYCFC clashed in a brawl outside a Newark pub ahead of Sunday’s New York derby, throwing trash and exchanging blows before police arrived to break it up.

Sunday’s incident is just the latest heated exchange in the burgeoning rivalry. In the inaugural match between the two teams, NYCFC fans set off smoke bombs and threw a flare on the field at Red Bull Arena.

Although NYCFC have made their presence felt off the field the Red Bulls have dominated play on the pitch, winning all three games this season against the newcomers, including a 2-0 win on Sunday.
