GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany — Schalke general manager Horst Heldt says the club has reached an agreement with Bundesliga rival Mainz to sign Hungary striker Adam Szalai.

The 25-year-old Szalai is to receive a four-year deal after undergoing a medical on Thursday.

Schalke reportedly paid the player’s buy-out clause of 8 million euros ($10.4 million).

Szalai scored 21 goals in 79 Bundesliga appearances for Mainz since switching from Real Madrid in January, 2010.

He becomes the third player to join Jens Keller’s side in the off-season, after defender Felipe Santana from Borussia Dortmund and midfielder Christian Clemens from second-division Cologne.
