MELBOURNE, Australia — Top-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany cruised to the Australian Open boy’s title with a 6-3, 6-0 victory Saturday over second-seeded Stefan Kozlov of the United States.

The 16-year-old Zverev, the first non-Australian to win the boys title since 2011, said his victory overcame some disappointing defeats at junior Grand Slam events.

"I was (in the) finals in Paris, I was in semis at the U.S. Open. Never could I make it to a victory, but now I did," he said.

Russia’s Elizaveta Kulichkova picked up a second title in Melbourne when she convincingly defeated Jana Fett of Croatia 6-2, 6-1 in the girl’s final.

She combined with Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina to win the doubles final on Friday.

Kulichkova, 17, now intends to focus on qualifying for women’s events.
