The Toronto Blue Jays are bringing back pitcher Dillon Tate.

Toronto has agreed to a major-league deal with the right-handed reliever, Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling reported Monday.

The team confirmed the signing on Wednesday. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Angel Bastardo was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Toronto claimed Tate off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles in September.

He made four relief appearances with the Blue Jays, recording a 5.40 ERA and 2.100 WHIP over 3.1 innings.

The 30-year-old from Harbor City, Calif., holds a 4.09 ERA and 1.168 WHIP in 190 career relief appearances over five seasons in the majors with Baltimore and Toronto.

Tate was non-tendered by the Blue Jays in November.

As Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith reported Saturday, the Blue Jays have at least one available spot in their bullpen as right-handers Erik Swanson (forearm) and Ryan Burr (shoulder fatigue) are behind schedule with opening day a little less than three weeks away.
